UPDATE #1: Photos are circulating that reportedly show windows at the CDC building with bullet holes. It is also reported that an officer was shot and is currently at the hospital.

ATLANTA, GA (2-minute read) — Panic gripped Emory University’s Atlanta campus Friday afternoon after reports of an active shooter near Emory Point, just steps from the main campus and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The university quickly issued an emergency alert on social media, warning students to “RUN. HIDE. FIGHT.” and urging everyone to shelter in place.

According to the alert, the shooting occurred in the area of the Emory Point CVS on Clifton Road. Multiple witnesses reported hearing a series of sharp gunshots—first about eight in quick bursts, then a short pause, followed by over a dozen more in rapid succession. Social media videos captured the terrifying moments, with sirens blaring and officers rushing toward the scene.

Local news outlet FOX 5 Atlanta reported that law enforcement created a heavy perimeter around Emory Point and the CDC’s main campus.
Police remain on scene as of press time, and the investigation is ongoing.
