First Look: Smith & Wesson 1854 Rifle in .45 Colt
One of the new firearms during SHOT Show this year which received lots of attention was the Smith & Wesson Model 1854 lever action rifles. At the initial launch, these rifles were only available in .44 Mag, a solid revolver cartridge that has an excellent track record and a rich history. However, Smith & Wesson is now offering the Model 1854 Series in .45 Colt, another revolver cartridge with a rich and storied history that is longer than the relatively modern .44 Mag. round.
Smith & Wesson’s latest 1854 models in this traditional “western” cartridge can be had in rifles with either a stainless steel finish with black polymer furniture or in the more traditional blued and walnut style. Smith & Wesson 1854 Series rifles lever action rifles have a nine-round capacity, a 19.25-inch threaded barrel and a 4.75-inch Picatinny rail affixed to the top of the receiver for mounting optics. Furthermore, they also include an adjustable XS Sights ghost ring rear sight and a gold-bead front sight.
