GREECE, NY (2-minute read) — A robbery suspect who targeted the same convenience store twice in less than two weeks was shot by the store owner during the second incident early Tuesday morning, according to the Greece Police Department.
Around 7:30 a.m., police received a 911 call reporting an armed robbery and exchange of gunfire at Henry’s Convenience Market on Denise Road, near the Greece-Rochester line. When officers arrived, the suspect had already fled, but roughly 15 minutes later, another 911 call came in reporting a man with a gunshot wound on Lake Avenue in Rochester. That individual turned out to be the same suspect from the store robbery and was taken into custody and transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
Investigators confirmed that this suspect was the same individual responsible for an April 26 armed robbery at the same store. During the earlier robbery, the store owner had not been present, but his clerk was held at gunpoint. The owner, familiar with the previous incident, was on-site Tuesday and responded with his legally owned firearm during the confrontation.

Police say the store owner acted in self-defense and did not sustain any injuries. The suspect’s firearm was recovered at the scene.
Armed Citizens and Self-Defense: What the Law Allows
New York State has strict firearm regulations, but business owners are permitted to possess firearms if legally licensed. In self-defense situations, especially when an imminent threat of deadly force exists, New York law allows for the use of justified force. This case appears to align with those provisions, as the store owner defended himself and his property during a second armed confrontation.
Safety Tip: Always keep your firearm securely stored and ensure you’re trained in lawful self-defense use, especially if you own a business in a high-risk area.
