Garand Thumb runs the Magpul and ZEV folding FDP
November 5, 2026
Magpul's Folding Defensive Platform started as a prototype years ago, and the FDP is now on the market as a collaboration with ZEV. Garand Thumb runs drills with it, tries drawing it from concealment, and talks through the design with people from ZEV.
Key points
- What it is: A Magpul chassis around ZEV's OZ9 internals and Glock-pattern parts, folding into a package that does not look much like a firearm. The video calls it a handy little pistol-caliber carbine.
- Barrel: A little over seven inches and threaded. Depending on the suppressor, the hosts say you will need a Nielsen device.
- Trigger: ZEV's team puts the break at about four to four and a half pounds, and the host says it feels clean and quick for a striker gun.
- Carry: The host says you can carry it folded with a round chambered, using a safety built into the design.
- Handling: The hosts single out how comfortable it is against the shoulder, crediting Magpul's experience with stocks.
Quick take
The hosts like it as a functional gun as well as a nostalgia piece, but say the speed comes from practice: their own times improved as they got used to it. If you are thinking about carrying one, their advice is to train with it first.
