Robbery Victim Shoots Two Armed Robbers With Their Own Gun

A robbery attempt at Memphis’ Classic Inn led to a shootout after the victim disarmed one of the attackers. Both suspects and the victim are now in custody and receiving medical care.

MEMPHIS, TN (1-minute read) — A robbery attempt behind a Memphis hotel took a dramatic turn Friday morning when the intended victim defended himself, leaving both attackers hospitalized. The Memphis Police Department reported the incident occurred at 6:15 a.m. at the Classic Inn on American Way in the Parkway Village area.

Officers found a man critically injured from multiple gunshot wounds and a woman with a gunshot injury to her upper arm. Both were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Meanwhile, police located the alleged victim of the robbery, who admitted to firing the shots in self-defense.

The man explained that he had arrived at the hotel earlier to meet the injured woman, who approached him wrapped in a blanket. She lured him to the back of the building under the pretense of going to her car. However, she suddenly drew a firearm and demanded his belongings. Her male accomplice emerged moments later, also armed.

The victim complied initially, tossing his wallet to the ground. When a loud noise distracted the robbers, he seized the opportunity to grab the woman’s firearm. In the ensuing struggle, the accomplice fired at the victim but missed. The victim then returned fire, striking both assailants.

All three individuals were detained, and an investigation is ongoing. Police have not yet announced charges but emphasize the importance of remaining vigilant in high-risk areas.

Safety Tip: If confronted with an armed robbery, prioritize your safety by remaining calm and assessing opportunities to de-escalate or escape. If carrying a firearm for self-defense, ensure you are trained in safe handling and decision-making under pressure.
