First Look: CMMG BR4 Dissent Rifle

CMMG Firearms is releasing its new Dissent semi-automatic, ranch-style carbine. The front half of this rifle looks like any other modern AR, except with a left-hand, side-mounted charging handle. However, instead of using the traditional AR carbine buffer tube and pistol-grip configuration, the new CMM BR4 Dissent uses a Magpul Remington 870 SGA shoulder stock. CMMG’s idea with the BR4 Dissent was to create a “ban-resistant” modern carbine that still offers modern features like an M-Lok compatible fore-end and a flattop upper receiver for easy optics mounting. The BR4 Dissent is also compatible with AR-15-pattern magazines, the most popular style of rifle magazine on the market today. Many aspects of the new BR4 Dissent take after CMMG’s Mk.4 traditional lower receiver specifications, with an alternative construction to make room for the Magpul shoulder stock.

“With the AR platform under constant attack, we knew there would be a time that we’d need a to do something for people to have a capable rifle behind the enemy lines of more restrictive states and municipalities. With this in mind, we started looking into designs for this many years ago. The introduction of our compact action in our Dissent lineup made this possible since we no longer must stay within the confines of a buffer-tube-based operated system. We hope the Br4 allows many doors to be opened for people that have had that door closed on them,” says Chris Reinkemeyer, the CEO of CMMG.
