First Look: Streamlight Protac 2AA Tactical Light

Streamlight, a company known for its vast array of tactical flashlights, firearm-mounted accessory lights, work lights, emergency lights and other portable lighting products has just launched a new iteration of its famous ProTac 2AA flashlight. This latest version of the ProTac 2AA, the new ProTac 2AA-X USB, is a multi-fuel variant that runs off either rechargeable or standard batteries and offers an enhanced output performance. The multi-fuel ProTac 2AA-X USB uses a 1600mAh Streamlight-branded protected lithium polymer USB-C rechargeable battery pack rechargeable up to 500 times. The battery charges in approximately four hours via a USB-C port on the side. The light can also accept two AA alkaline batteries. Like the other classic ProTac lights in Streamlight’s lineup, the new ProTac 2AA-X USB features the classic “Ten Tap” user light programmable interface which allows the end user to switch between high/strobe/low (the factory default) settings or “high only” or “low/high.” This pocket-sized light throws a 500 lumen and 10,250 candela beam, with a maximum distance of 203 meters and a 2.25-hour runtime when using the rechargeable battery pack. With standard alkaline batteries, the light will throw out 270 lumens and 5,000 candela with a 2.5-hour runtime instead.

Streamlight builds the bodies of the ProTac 2AA-X USB from 6000 series anodized aluminum and these lights also feature gasket sealed lens to protect the head from moisture or the elements.

“The ProTac 2AA-X USB not only is USB-C rechargeable, but also more than doubles the lumen and candela output of its predecessor,” said Streamlight Chief Revenue Officer Michael F. Dineen. “It gives users the choice of using either a cost-saving USB-C rechargeable battery pack or alkaline batteries, depending on availability or user preference,” said Dineen. “About the size of a marker, it’s the perfect EDC light for a variety of operating needs.”
