OREM, UT (2-minute read) — Federal authorities are actively pursuing leads in the shooting of conservative political commentator Charlie Kirk after chilling new surveillance footage surfaced showing a person of interest just minutes before the attack.
The video, captured by a neighborhood security camera in Orem, Utah, shows a man dressed entirely in black walking with a strange limp along a residential street at 11:49 AM on Wednesday. This street is only a short distance from Utah Valley University, where Kirk was shot minutes later. The FBI has stated that the suspect reached the campus by 11:52 AM, which seems to align with the timestamp on the video.
Concealed Firearm Likely Carried in Public
The man’s gait appears unnatural, which investigators believe may be due to the concealed presence of a bolt-action Mauser .30-06 rifle, the same type of firearm recovered at the scene. Carrying a large, bolt-action rifle discreetly would require awkward movements or specialized clothing, and the video supports the idea that the firearm was hidden under his clothing.

At 12:29 PM, just six minutes after the shooting occurred and the university began clearing the area, additional footage shows students walking away from the campus. In the background, a lone figure dressed in black is seen running through a backyard, an area not commonly used by students. The contrast between this person’s hurried escape and the calm of others suggests a possible attempt to evade capture.
Law enforcement continues to request assistance from the public as the investigation and manhunt continue. Anyone with footage or tips is urged to contact federal authorities immediately.
Safety Tip: If you’re legally carrying a firearm, always ensure it’s secure, legally transported, and not concealed in a way that violates local laws or creates public alarm.
