Shooting from retention when an attacker is already on you

November 5, 2026

Tactical Rifleman's short concealed-carry clip works through what to do when a threat is too close for a normal presentation. The instructor talks through the sequence once, then runs it at full speed.

Key points

  • Start at retention: Bring the gun to a retention position and fire from there.
  • Clear your hand: Drop your hand out of the muzzle line, then use a modified speed rock to get back on the attacker with a point shot.
  • Keep moving: Continue moving away while pushing the gun out to full extension.
  • Forget the group: The instructor calls it a misconception that you need a certain shot pattern up close. The goal is rounds on target and space.

Quick take

The clip is under a minute, so it shows the concept rather than teaching it. Once you have created space, it says, you can decide whether to stay in the fight or break and run. This is one to work on with an instructor before you try it at speed.
